Overview

UV Dynamics LogoUV Dynamics Water Disinfection System

Purahome believes UVDynamics is the only UV Company that designs and manufactures both the power sources and disinfection chambers in its disinfection systems. This gives us greater peace of mind that your water is safer by using a UV Dynamics  system. Having installed a UV Dynamics disinfection system, you can have more confidence in your safety against waterborne pathogenic organisms causing illness. UV systems kill bacteria, viruses, and other pathogens by preventing them from reproducing. The result is safer drinking water.

Using UV Effectively for Germicidal Effects

UV light inactivates microorganisms by damaging their nucleic acids (DNA, RNA). The cellular DNA and RNA in bacteria and viruses absorb the high-energy, short-wavelength UV light. This absorption stops the pathogens from reproducing and therefore kills them.

The degree of damage depends on the dose or amount of UV energy that the organism receives. UV dose is calculated by multiplying the strength or intensity of light by the exposure time.

Some pathogenic organisms are more sensitive to UV light than others. The UV Dynamics system provides sufficient UV dose to kill pathogenic bacteria, viruses, and protozoa.

Technology

What is in the UV Dynamics Water Disinfection System?UV Dynamics 400E Water Disinfection System

1. 10.40 UV Bulb

2. 10.40 Quartz Sleeve

3. 10.40 Control Box (120 Ballast)

As with any UV system, pretreatment of the water is usually required to maximize disinfection performance. This would include treatment of hardness, iron, manganese, sediment in well water and sediment in city water.

How does a UV Dynamics Water System disinfect your water?

Inside UV Water Treatment SystemHigh output low pressure UV lamp:

Engineered with a high output low-pressure UV lamp centered within the disinfection chamber and protected by a pure fused quartz sleeve. The high output UV lamps provide a greater UV intensity than a standard low-pressure lamp while maintaining the efficiency of the standard low-pressure lamps.

High efficiency electronic ballast power supply:

A specially designed high efficiency electronic ballast that is matched with the UV lamp to provide maximum UV intensity. The ballast includes smart technology to turn the ballast off if the UV lamp is not connected or operational.

UV lamp operation indicator:

UV lamp LED operation indicator that illuminates when the UV lamp is operational. This allows you to visually check the operation of the UV lamp without chance of exposure to the UV lamp.

Microcomputer control:

A sophisticated microcomputer control board monitors the ongoing operational status of the UV system with system check and verification status that integrates an audible alarm and LED display to insure proper operation of your UV system.

Factors That Affect UV Light Intensity

Successful disinfection depends upon exposing water to a sufficient intensity of UV light for a given time. Aging lamps, dirty lamp sleeves, and UV light-absorbing chemicals or particles in the water can reduce UV light intensity.

Lamp age

Given that UV light intensity decreases as lamps burn continuously over time, lamps should be replaced after 12 months. UV Dynamics, accounting for this decrease in UV output, rates the UV dose output of its lamps using end-of-life (12-month) UV output. Consequently, a newly installed lamp will deliver a much higher dose than specified.

Sleeve fouling

Hard water scale and iron may accumulate on the quartz sleeve that protects the UV lamp. This scale or fouling will decrease the intensity of the light that enters the water. Water with high concentrations of iron, calcium carbonate, or manganese should be pretreated before installing a UV unit.

Good Advice: Get Your Water Tested

Nothing is 100% guaranteed because things can and usually happen especially when well water is concerned. We recommend you have your water tested 3-4 times a year for microbial contamination. This should be a free service provided by your local region.

  • Check your sleeve a couple times a year to make sure it is clean and transparent.

  • Sanitize your water lines a couple times a year if you have constant power outages. A power outage means the UV is not functioning and if water is used during the outage, contaminated water can get through because there will still be pressure in your tank.

Replacement Parts and Schedule

The UV bulb should be replaced annually and any prefilters as well should get changed accordingly.

FAQs

In case of power outage, what do I do?

The UV will not work and water will not be treated so be careful. For extended power outage, you can have your water tested for bacteria.  If you have a gas stove you can boil the water. Depending on your location, you can contact your municipality with a more accurate answer. But as a general rule, boiling water for at least 15 minutes will kill bacteria.

My unit is beeping, how do I make it stop?

Many UV systems will beep to notify you that a year has gone by and that it is time to change your UV bulb. By pushing the reset button, the beeping will stop for a week and it will begin beeping again. You will be able to reset your UV Dynamics Water Disinfection System a total of three times before it stops beeping completely. It is highly recommended that you change your UV bulb within the month following the initial beeping to ensure adequate microbiological protection for your water. As long as the green light is lit, the UV should be functional.

How do I reset the unit after changing the bulb?

Following a UV bulb change, specifically with the UV Dynamics Water Disinfection System, it is important to be holding the reset button simultaneously while plugging your unit back in. This will ensure that the ‘change bulb’ timer is reset for another calendar year. You will hear one long beep and then let go of the reset button. If you do not hold the reset button while you plug your unit back in, it will begin beeping again in a week’s time.

Why does my UV beep to warn me about changing the bulb when 1 year has not passed?

It is probable the timer needs to be reset. As long as the green light is lit, the UV should be functional. Proceed by holding the reset button simultaneously while plugging your unit back in. This will ensure that the ‘change bulb’ timer is reset for another one year increment. You will hear one long beep and then let go of the reset button. If your timer has now been reset after 8 months of use instead of 12 months, your UV bulb should still get changed at 12 months or in 4 months’ time for example. The beeper will not go off in 4 months so you need to make note of when the bulb is due for a change. Purahome will also contact you at this time for your notification. Once you change the bulb at the proper time, reset the timer as usual and now you will be warned in one year’s time.
