Reasons to Choose the In-Line Shower Filter
The In-Line Shower Filter’s advanced performance and features make it a natural choice for anyone wanting an in line dechlorinating system for a healthier shower.
1. Stylish chrome exterior blends with your decor
2. Properly designed KDF filtration is better than carbon filters for chlorine reduction
3. Quick and easy installation and simple maintenance
4. Purahome’s superior systematized customer service helps your family get the healthiest air and water possible
Don’t Get Fooled!
You may have seen retailers advertising VOC removal from a point-of-use shower filter; we advise caution and would disagree. We do not know of any research that shows otherwise. A properly designed shower filter works great on chlorine removal but not on VOCs. The only sure way to get the healthiest possible showers is with a whole home system that removes VOCs in addition to chlorine.
Technology
What is in the In-Line Shower Filter?
1. Dechlorinating KDF media shower filter cartridge
2. Chrome exterior housing
The main goal of your In-Line Shower Filter is to provide you with the best protection possible from the potential toxic side-effects of chlorine. The testing Purahome has seen shows this is a premiere filtration system.
How does the In-Line Shower Filter remove contaminants?
Your In-Line Shower Filter uses a proprietary blend of KDF Media to reduce chlorine into a soluble chloride salt.
It’s all about a chemical reaction! Think of this example: why does your car rust in the winter? Because iron in your car is oxidized (loses electrons) by salt and water. It is a result of a redox reaction (reduction-oxidation).
In your shower, KDF (a copper-zinc mixture) undergoes a redox reaction with chlorine gas: the chlorine gas gets reduced (picks up electrons from zinc) to turn into chloride (a harmless dissolved salt in your water).
KDF Redox media reduces chlorine in higher water temperatures better than carbon. It is also bacteriostatic. Your In-Line filter cartridge design allows water to have the proper contact time with the KDF for effective chlorine reduction without sacrificing flow rates.
Filter Installation & Maintenance
Follow these tips to install your In-Line Shower Filter (or change the filter):
1. Use several wraps of Teflon tape on the threads. We recommend approximately 8 wraps in a clockwise direction when facing the threads. The housing will not have to be as tightly installed to prevent leaks if you follow this plumbing trick. This results in less stress on the housing.
2. Run your In-Line Shower Filter for a minute or less when it is first installed. This will eliminate any media fines that have settled during shipping.

FAQs
How often do I need to change my shower filter?
Depending on the number of people living in your home and frequency of showers taken, your shower filter can last from 6 months to a year. We can do the calculation for you if you contact us.
My shower filter is leaking and/or spraying water, is it broken?
Determine where the water is leaking and/or spraying from. It could be that either:
a) mineral build-up in the nozzles need to be cleaned out by soaking the shower head in vinegar or EZCal.
b) the unit needs to be tightened (can add Teflon tape to help create a better seal),
c) an O-ring has come loose or has fallen off if it is dripping from the middle
d) the unit is cracked somewhere likely from dropping the shower filter (if it is a hand-held filter).
How do shower filters make my shower water healthier? Does it reduce heavy metals and other contaminants from my water?
Chlorinated water contains dissolved chlorine that off-gases more readily at warmer temperatures. The quickest and greatest route of exposure to chlorine gas is through inhalation typically occurring during showering and bathing. Chlorine can irritate skin and eyes, as well as, aggravate asthma, eczema and psoriasis. Purahome offers shower filters that are very effective at reducing your exposure to chlorine while showering for healthier, younger looking skin and softer, dandruff-free hair.
While your shower filter works very well to reduce chlorine, it cannot reduce your exposure to other waterborne contaminants including chlorine- disinfection by-products, heavy metals and other volatile organic compounds (VOCs). Some shower filters are advertised as being able to remove VOCs from water, but we do not know of any research that would indicate that a shower filter is capable of doing so. For this reason, we recommend whole home systems that reduce VOCs in addition to chlorine to provide you and your family with the healthiest showers and baths possible.
Can I get a filter for my bath?
There is no small, easy-to-use, filter specific for your bath that we are currently aware of. The most inexpensive approach would be to install a whole home carbon-based filter that will typically require an annual filter change.
