VAPORTEK uses blends of 32+ natural essential oils - such as eucalyptus, pine, lemon, etc. based on our President’s favourite – chemistry! Exclusive GREEN Vaportek Systems

Vaportek odor control systems employ proprietary compounds of select natural oils. These odour neutralizing compounds are delivered 2 different ways: a saturated disk or an exclusive membrane containing the essential oils. The disk systems use a special fibre element that is impregnated with the same natural oil blends as the membranes. With the membrane systems, oil compounds are hermetically sealed into specially formed membranes that permit the oil to breathe through the surface of the envelope as a vapor. Both systems rely on convection to carry the vapor quickly wherever air circulates. Vaportek products work with either a natural diffusion of odour neutralizing essential oils or through the use of electrical or battery-powered machines with low flow air movement.

Odor Neutralization – How Does Vaportek Work?

Vaportek's compound is an odor neutralizer. It modifies the olfactory nature of unwanted odors to a point where odours disappear. Vaportek’s effectiveness over a broad range of customer applications never ceases to amaze us. When two substances of given concentrations are mixed, the resulting odor may be far less intense than that of the separate components. This is the principle behind odour modification, or neutralization, and the basis for Vaportek's odor neutralizing products.

When molecules of the several different GREEN constituents of the Vaportek compound evaporate into your air, they react with the odor–producing elements of the molecule that is responsible for your odour. The portion of the molecule that contributes the odor may be (more chemistry!) an aldehyde, amine, diamine, sulfide, lactone, carboxylic acid, ester, cabylamine, ketone or other carbon group type. These are highly reactive groups and are neutralized, or made inactive, when they interact with the GREEN ingredients of the Vaportek compound. The Vaportek compound is effective because of its intrinsic wide spectrum of neutralizing activity combined with its high mobility in air and ability to penetrate porous substances such as wallboard, wool, carpeting, cement, insulation and others to permanently neutralize imbedded odors.

A Quick Story…

We remember when Chris came into our store because she was at witts’ end. She had a lingering odour in her apartment that would not go away. Chris tried bleach, Fantastik, vinegar and on and on. We asked her where the odour was originating from and she let us know it was her fridge. This told us that the odour was likely due to something organic / microbial and therefore we recommended the Bio-C GP. Chris called us 2 hours later to let us know the odour was completely gone.

Another Quick Story (or two actually)…

Days Inn and Suites By the Falls is a regular Purahome Customer. They have several Optimum 4000 Systems throughout and use our Vaportek liquids (Ecoz, Bio-C and Bio-C GP) also for preventative maintenance. Recently they had a water sprinkler line rupture on the second floor. Sophia, the Hotel Manager called for consulation. Mario (Purahome’s President) went in person and when he arrived, the smell of raw sewage was way more overpowering than he thought! Days Inn and Suites thought the entire hall floor carpet was going to have to be replaced. With Mario’s assistance, part of the devised plan was to bring all the Optimum 4000 systems onto the floor to reduce the airborne sewage odours. The other part of the plan was to use Bio-C GP in a 1:10 dilution and let it soak well in the carpets. Extractors and blowers were then brought in as the final step to dry the entire hall. The hotel owners and staff were overwhelmed that the powerful sewage smell was 100% gone the next day. In fact, there was a clean fragrant freshness characteristic of Vaportek “Neutral” Scent (Purahome’s favourite). A far cry from the sewage smell indeed (and the carpet was saved!).

We were called on another occasion by Sophia for consultation when they had a group of young men vomit (Sophia figured about 7 or so!) all over the carpeting in the hall outside their rooms. They thought for sure the carpet was destroyed. In consulting with her we suggested they use their carpet extractors with our Bio-C GP solution. To their amazement (and we were pleased also), the odours were completely gone!

The Alternatives?

Purahome suggests avoid using odour neutralizers that come with warnings (like foggers, misters, ozone generators) or contain toxic substances. Many are also only masking agents and do nothing to reduce odours yet alone eliminate the cause of the odour. Did You Know?

Vaportek was originally developed for cancer patient wards to help eliminate odours that result from chemotherapy (dying cells). What we are not excited about:

• Simple and cost-effective and works great, what’s not to like?  The only thing we can come up with (and we are nit-picking!) is to check for color-fastness on the intended surface as the plant extracts in Vaportek are mildly acidic. Purahome has yet to hear from a customer that this was ever a problem.
