Purahome remembers our first trip to the Abatement Manufacturing Plant. We were interested in adding the Abatement CAP Whole Home HEPA Series to our product line because of their unique design and power.  The tour of the manufacturing facility was very impressive. Even more impressive were the results of our particle testing on the Abatement CAP Whole Home HEPA Purifiers. A perfect zero particle count; meaning these units surpass even HEPA standards! Our Abatement customers Mr. and Mrs. Freeman came in to pick up their annual filter kit for the CAP600 Whole Home HEPA Purifier as well as our Microgerme Concentrate Treatment (an all-natural duct sanitizing treatment that many customers request with their filter kit).  Mr. and Mrs. Freeman were very pleased with their Abatement Whole Home HEPA Purifier. Their particle count was excellent and they could feel a difference in their home air quality.  Mrs. Freeman was still experiencing her post nasal drip.  After leaving our store, Mr. Freeman sanitized his ductwork (it only takes one minute) with the Microgerme Concentrate Treatment. For the next 3 days, Mrs. Freeman’s post nasal drip stopped! When hearing about this, Purahome President Mario Di Franco concluded that it was most likely microbial contaminants in the air conditioning coils largely responsible for the post nasal drip and that a CAP500 UVP Photolytic System should be installed to compliment the CAP600 Whole Home Air Purifier. 1. Excellent Prefiltration – Not Just Your Typical HEPA Prefilter

Your Abatement CAP600 HEPA Series uses 3” of prefiltration and the CAP1200 HEPA Series uses 5” of prefiltration before your air even reaches the Photolytic UV and HEPA filter. As well, the prefiltration is graded, meaning larger particulate is first removed followed by finer particulate to keep airflow as unrestricted as possible. Compare this to the majority of brands in the market today that employ only ¼” thick prefiltration and you see there really is no comparison. What does this mean for you? Purahome has seen over the years how systems with poorly designed prefiltration really begin to restrict airflow resulting in less purified air coming out af the air cleaner. In many cases, the airflow is so restricted that we can actually hear it, we don’t even have to test it! Because the Abatement prefiltration is so good with a low pressure drop, we have yet to have a Filter “OverDue” Indicator illuminate in any of our customers systems. Your Abatement CAP Series will need your attention only twice a year! The optional UVP bulb lasts for 1 year while the PreCertified and Individually Tested HEPA filter will last 2 to 4 years.

Conventional whole-house air cleaners contain a filter rated for a certain performance such as HEPA or MERV. What Air Cleaning Technology Is In My Abatement CAP Whole Home HEPA Purifier?

1. Advanced Fibre-Trapper High-Capacity Prefilter

Compared to fibreglass panel filters, these filters last longer as they have a 5 times greater dirt holding capacity. As MERV 4 rated, they also have a higher particle arrestance as per ASHRAE 52-76 so they extend the life of the more costly subsequent filters and they are also biodegradeable – GO GREEN! Filter life: 6 months based on the Purifier being on all the time.

2. Pleated Vapor-Lock Carbon/Particulate Filter

Vapor-Lock® activated carbon filters are dual function as they filter fine particulate (MERV 7 in the CAP600 Models and MERV 8 in the CAP 1200-UVP) and are utilized to capture airborne gases, VOCs and odors. VOCs (volatile organic compounds) are often generated by off-gassing from carpets, composite wood furniture and other materials in the home. Vapor-Lock filters capture gasses and odors via a process known as adsorption, whereby the gaseous molecules of the contaminants are attracted to and chemically bond to the surface of the carbon. For moderate control, the effectiveness and life of the Vapor-Lock carbon filter is determined by the concentration of gases and odors in the home.
Filter life: 6 months based on the Purifier being on all the time.

3. Optional UVP Photolysis

The UVP Bulb is brilliantly placed inside the cylindrical HEPA where the air is already pre-cleaned providing better UVP Performance. With an output of 33 microwatts/square centimeter measured 1 metre away, the UV will be effective in microbial reduction. Unlike germicidal UV, our UVP Plus technology does not require a clear line of sight exposure of the microbial organism to the lamp and therefore better performance is assured. Ths technology employs a second frequency of light that splits oxygen in order to create short-term ozone (short-term because it reverts back into oxygen in seconds) which continues in your duct work and air conditioning coils to breakdown airborne microbes, gases and odours through good chemistry, that is, an oxidation process called photolysis. Abatement UVP systems are designed to generate 0.10 to 0.20 ppm of ozone in the Purifier so that when measured with duct testing only 10 feet downstream, the concentration is reduced to 0.01 ppm or less. This is well below 0.05 ppm or typical outdoor levels. Bulb life: 1 year based on the Purifier being on all the time.

4. HEPA Filtration

Individually tested and PreCertified to a greater airflow than in your Purifier, your HEPA filter eliminates bacteria, viruses and automobile brake and combustion particles and smoke, through a nano-fibre structure. Filter life: 2 – 4 years based on the Purifier being on all the time.

• As is the case with any whole home air cleaner installation, best results are achieved with the furnace fan running especially when a family member has a greater need for improved air quality. What we are not excited about:

• Changing the Photolytic UV Bulb can be a little tricky your first time, but once you do it, the next time is easier. You will need a Phillips Screwdriver or Cordless Drill with a Phillips bit, an adjustable wrench or a ½” wratchet is better. We also like to use a little mini-flathead screwdriver to wedge apart the bulb from the connector.
